Why Choose Professional Teeth Whitening?

For decades, traditional braces have been the cornerstone of orthodontic treatments. These braces are effective for a variety of dental problems, including:

  • Crowded Teeth: Braces are a great way to align teeth that have become too close, creating a uniform and attractive smile.

  • Gaps Between Teeth: Braces can close gaps between your teeth for a more uniform appearance.

  • Underbites, Overbites, Crossbites, Open Bites: Traditional Braces are effective for correcting malocclusions such as underbites and overbites. They improve both function and appearance and will ensure that your teeth bite together properly.

What are Traditional Braces?

With braces, metal brackets are attached to your front teeth, and a thin arch wire connects them. The brackets and the wires apply gentle pressure to your teeth to gradually move them into their desired position. These are the components of braces and their functions.

  • Brackets: These metal pieces are adhered to each tooth with a dental adhesive. They act as anchors for archwires.

  • Archwire: This archwire runs through your brackets to guide the movement of the teeth. Dr. Waldron adjusts it periodically to ensure that you continue making progress.

  • Ligatures: These are small rubber bands or metal ties that hold the archwire on the brackets. They come in various colors, allowing you to customize your braces.

  • Bands: Metal bands may sometimes be placed around molars to provide extra support and anchorage of brackets and archwires.

Benefits & Uses of Traditional Braces

  • Proven Effectiveness: Traditional Braces have been used for many years to treat orthodontic problems. They are effective and reliable for achieving a healthy, straight smile.
  • Comprehensive Treatment: Braces are suitable for all dental conditions and patients, regardless of age or dental condition.
  • Customization: Modern braces offer more comfort and customization than ever before. You can choose from various ligature colors to customize your braces.
  • Durability: Traditional braces of high-quality stainless steel steel are designed to withstand daily wear and provide consistent, reliable results.

What to Expect During Your Orthodontic Journey

  • Initial Consultation

Waldron Smile Center offers a consultation to help you start your journey toward a more beautiful smile. Dr. Waldron examines your teeth, jaw, and gums during this appointment. It may be necessary to take x-rays or photographs and make impressions to develop a treatment plan tailored to your needs.

  • Installation of the Braces

The next step in your treatment is to install the braces. The process usually takes between one and two hours.

Cleaning & Preparation: Your teeth will be thoroughly cleaned and dried to ensure the brackets adhere correctly.

Attaching Brackets: Dr. Waldron applies a special adhesive to each tooth and then carefully places the brackets. A curing light can harden the adhesive.

Inserting Archwire: The Archwire is threaded into brackets and secured by ligatures. It is adjusted to guide teeth's movement.

  • Adjustments & Follow-Up Visits

You must return to Waldron Smile Centre for regular adjustments throughout your orthodontic treatment. During these visits, Dr. Waldron will:

    • Check the progress of your treatment.
    • Adjust the archwire to allow for continuous movement of your teeth.
    • Replace ligatures if necessary.

These visits should be scheduled between 4 and 6 times per year. They are vital to achieving the best results.

  • How to Care for Braces

The success of your orthodontic treatment depends on the care and maintenance you provide. Here are a few tips on how to care for your braces.

Maintain Good Oral Hygiene: Brush thoroughly after each meal and floss daily to remove food particles from around brackets and wires.

Avoid Certain Foods: To avoid damaging your braces, avoid eating hard, sticky, or chewy food such as popcorn, nuts, and chewing gum.

Wear a Mouthguard: When participating in sports or any other physical activity, it is important to wear a mouthguard. This will protect your braces from damage and prevent teeth injury.

  • Completion of Treatment

When your teeth are in the desired position, it is time to remove your braces. The process is painless and quick. Dr. Waldron will:

    • Remove brackets and archwire.
    • Remove any adhesive residue by cleaning and polishing your teeth.
    • Take impressions for your retainers.
  • Retention Phase

You will then enter the phase of treatment called retention. Retainers, which are made to fit your mouth perfectly, keep teeth in the new position and prevent them from shifting back. Dr. Waldron provides detailed instructions for wearing and caring for your retainers so that you can maintain your new smile.
